GOVERNOR AMOSUN’S CRIME CONFESSION
By Oluwaseyi Oduyela
I watched and enjoyed Bill Cosby’s “Kids Say the Darndest Things” aired on CBS in the late 90s to the early 2000s and the utterances of some of Nigerian politicians brought back the memory.
According to this report:
“Amosun has shocked Nigerians with the very damaging revelation that Daniel is actually a liar and an impostor. According to the Governor, Gbenga Daniel who completed two terms as governor of Ogun State is actually from Delta State. Calling Daniel a bastard, governor Amosun explained that the ex-governor was not an indigene of the state until he, Amosun and some other people he refused to mention, assisted him in claiming citizenship of Ogun State. Governor Amosun says that Daniel is actually an Isoko man whom he helped to build a family house in Shagamu.”
First, Mr. Amosun’s statement was a confession to a crime. He confessed to conspiring with Mr. Daniels to lying for the purpose of winning an election. If this is true, what Amosun did with his yet-to-be named co-conspirators is a crime. I am not sure Mr. Amosun considered the implication of what he said before he said it, or that he knew what he was saying and just didn’t care because he is above the law. I do not understand how someone running for re-election will stand before the people that will re-elect him that he worked with some people to betray them by aiding a Delta State indigene as Ogun State citizen to run for election as their Governor.
There is a serious moral issue here. How does Mr. Amosun expect the Ogun State people to trust him? How does he think that with this confession, he can still enjoy the trust of the people?
I just wonder what goes on in the minds of Nigerian politicians and their habit of shoot before you think. I have always thought that public office demands high standard and sense of responsibility. Mr. Amosun who served as a Senator for four years with no legislative accomplishments, became governor and has since been battered all sides for inactive.
These are my questions:
What is Gbenga Daniel’s real name? What town is he from in Isoko land?
What is Gbenga Daniel’s true age? Who are his parents? Mr. Amosun should provide all these details.
How did Gbenga Daniels get his broth certificate? Who issued it? If he got it through sworn affidavit, then he has lied under oath and that’s perjury.
The question now is what would the government do? The INEC, who cleared Daniels for the election can start an investigation, the Police should do same too. But I don’t think all that will happen. He has said what he said and nothing will happen.
I guess I should wait and see if the people of Ogun State will let this slide by or act on it.
Good people of Ogun state should get to the bottom of this. This man is not a man of good character and I don’t he should allowed to remain in the Government House for another four years.
